By animal life I am including all members of the animal kingdom. Animal life cannot exist without consuming the living material of either other animals or plants.

Robbery implies a spiteful motivation, or at least more take than there is give. Some animals have a symbiotic relationship, where they're providing shelter or nourishment for others. Thus, their taking is offset by what they provide, so I think the term robbery might be a little too extreme of a word.
