Although we all strive for truth, almost in a religious way. There is nothing inherently good about truth.

Using my functional definition, lies are evil in nature. However, since I think the goodness of actions is to be measured based on the anticipated outcome of the action, and those of alternative actions including inaction, there are times when it is good to lie.
